These charming towns in the Rías Baixas are one of the most outstanding plans during your vacation. The perfect time to discover Galician gastronomy, culture and traditions
Rías Baixas Plan 1
A day of relaxation and tranquility in O Grove
If you don’t want to take the car and spend a day of your holiday in Galicia relaxing, this plan is perfect.
In the morning you can walk to the beaches closest to the hotel, Area Das Pipas beach (5 minutes walk) or Area de Reboredo (8 minutes walk). These beautiful fine sand beaches are sheltered, so they are great for swimming and for going with children, due to their low waves.
At midday, you can eat at one of the beach bars there and taste the delicious grilled fish. In the afternoon, you can come and rest at the hotel and relax in our outdoor pool or in the spa and have a drink at the pool bar.

In the late afternoon, a good plan to round off this day of holiday in O’Grove is to go into town and stroll through the streets, the marina and sit on one of the many terraces to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the summer months. As an alternative plan, if you are going with children and want to enjoy an entertaining family day, you can also go to the O’Grove aquarium, very close to the hotel.
The streets of O Grove are home to more than 50 sculptures that adorn it, in a street art exhibition just a few steps from our hotel in Las Rías Baixas. In our section on tourism in the Rías Baixas with children you will find more plans in this town more focused on family holidays in the area.
Rías Baixas Plan 2
Water Sports and Nature in the Rías Baixas
You’ll be staying at a hotel in the Rías Baixas: make the most of it and enjoy your vacation with our proposals. After gathering energy with our delicious breakfasts, you can start your vacation in the Rías Baixas by heading to Mexilloeira Beach, one of the wildest on the peninsula. It is a 15-minute walk from the hotel (or a 3-minute drive), and at this beach, you can practice water sports such as kitesurfing. You can also visit the A Bodeira lagoon.
For lunch, you can dine at Parrilla Tango. Afterward, you can continue your route and explore the archaeological remains of O Carreiro. In the afternoon, you can take the car to go to La Toja Island (a 10-minute drive or a 1-hour walk) to enjoy its nature, the sea, or visit the Chapel of Shells. And if you want to enjoy the great benefits of La Toja’s thermal waters.

Rías Baixas Plan 3
A Lanzada and San Vicente do Mar
La Lanzada is one of the most famous beaches and, therefore, a place you cannot miss during your vacation in Galicia without leaving the Rías Baixas. You must spend a day at this vast, unspoiled open-sea beach, where you can not only sunbathe and swim but also take a full walk along its wooden boardwalk, which runs parallel to the beach and takes about half an hour.
For lunch, you can head to the small tourist village of San Vicente do Mar, where you can savor the best of the estuary’s gastronomy in one of its restaurants. Afterwards, you can enjoy a coffee or a drink at its famous Nautico de A Barrosa, and if you’re lucky, catch one of its live concerts featuring world-class musicians.
In the afternoon, one option is to go on one of the hiking trails we suggest in our hiking routes section in Rías Baixas. The first two are very close to San Vicente.
Rías Baixas Plan 4
Boat Trip, Wine Tourism, and Gastronomy in Rías Baixas
One of the most typical experiences in O Grove is the boat tour through the estuary, including a visit to the mussel farms, where their operation is explained, and you can taste the exquisite mussels from the Ría de Arousa. Several companies offer this tour, and you can book it on-site.
On your return, you can have lunch in O Grove at restaurants like A Solaina, Beiramar, or Sal de Allo.
In the afternoon, you can choose between hiking, cycling, or driving routes through the Rías Baixas, or visit one of the many charming villages in the Rías Baixas.
One of our favorite plans for a vacation in Galicia with a strong gastronomic component is visiting Cambados, the capital of D.O. Albariño wine. This charming town is perfect for visiting a winery (we can recommend one), exploring the Ethnographic Wine Museum, and strolling among its manor houses and noble residences.

Rías Baixas Plan 5
A Day Discovering the Charm of Sanxenxo and Portonovo
Leaving O Grove, take the coastal road towards Portonovo and Sanxenxo, where you’ll find must-visit beaches like Paxariñas and Canelas. If you enjoy naturism, Bascuas Beach is one of the best nudist beaches in Galicia.
In Portonovo, you can taste its signature dish, Ray, the star of a gastronomic festival. To walk off your meal, the Silgar Promenade in Sanxenxo offers terraces, ice cream shops, and a lively atmosphere.
Sanxenxo and Portonovo are two of the most tourist-friendly towns and a must-visit in the Rías Baixas. In summer, their streets are full of life, with a wide range of dining and leisure options.

Rías Baixas Plan 6
Charming villages in the Rías Baixas
If one day you wake up cloudy, a good option for your holidays in Galicia is to visit the nearby fishing villages and historic centres. Among them, the old town of Pontevedra stands out, and a little further away Santiago de Compostela (1 hour away), the capital of Galicia, which throughout the year, but especially in summer, is flooded with pilgrims who finish their Camino de Santiago
In our routes and hiking section, you can also find below two suggested car routes to visit many of the charming towns in the area and soak up their architecture and deep-rooted seafaring tradition.

Rías Baixas Plan 7
The impressive Cíes Islands and Ons Islands
Going into the Atlantic Ocean you can visit the Cies Islands, the best known and most crowded, or opt for the wilder Ons Island, closer to the hotel, where, from Portonovo (15 minutes from the hotel) you can take the catamaran that takes you there, spend the whole day there and return at the last minute.
If you come for several days, visiting one of these two islands is something you have to dedicate a day to on your holiday in the Rías Baixas. To go to the Cíes Islands, you will have to go to Cangas de Morrazo or Vigo to take the boat, so they are further away, but they are the most visited. If you leave from Vigo, you can take advantage of the return to take a walk around the city.
Both options, Ons or Cíes, are very good. And the beaches, landscapes, fauna and flora will leave you impressed. There you can take routes around the islands and enjoy white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.
